Urban Farmers is a loose association of residents of northeast Seattle interested in sharing food production skills with their neighbors as part of building a sustainable local food network. We accomplish this by informal visits to each others gardens, sponsoring classes, hosting an annual garden tour, and managing or supporting neighborhood food producing gardens.
Classes with topics such as pruning, seed, starting, garden planning, and soils management are offered at the annual Hands-On Skills Fair in early February. The annual garden tour is typically around the middle of June. We are also involved with the following gardens:
- Ravenna Community Center Garden located at the Ravenna Community Center
- Meadowbrook Community Garden and Orchard located in the City park south of Nathan hale High School
- NE Seattle Food Bank Garden located at the Friends Church on 25th Ave NE and NE 70th Street.
The Garden Tour
Sustainable NE Seattle is hosting a garden tour. If you have a new or old; big or small; productive or not so productive garden and want to be part of the tour please contact me. Gardens can be food producing, wildlife habitat, native plant, or other types demonstrating sustainable practices.
